Artist in Residence Program
In the fall of 2023 Student Craft launched its Visiting Artist Residency program thanks to generous funding from the Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation. This program provides a paid residency experience for artists at the Student Craft studios here in Berea, KY. In addition to a small honorarium, shared housing is provided in the 4-bedroom, 3–bath “Craft House” adjacent to Berea’s campus.

The Craft House is owned by Berea College and operated by our Student Craft program. This 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home will be shared by our staff Fellows, Resident Artists, and visiting instructors for the Pine Croft Woodworking School. Two level, 4 bedroom, 3 bath duplex. One bedroom on the main floor has a private bath, the remaining three bedrooms are on the second floor and share bathrooms. Bedrooms are not assigned.

Each bedroom has one full size bed and two pillows. We also provide sheets, blankets, and towels. Please feel free to bring any additional bedding or towels to make your stay more comfortable.

The large kitchen is fully outfitted with cooking, serving, and eating tools and utensils. There is a large, shared refrigerator, pantry, and dishwasher. There are a few staple spices and there may be a few basic ingredients, but plan to bring or purchase your own food if you will cook. Please be respectful that the kitchen is a shared space.

The large, shared bathroom on the main floor that has a soaking tub and a washer and dryer for all to use. Please be respectful that laundry appliances and this bathroom are a shared space.

Parking is shared with the duplex neighbor and is very tight in the driveway. Street parking is available, but we also recommend getting a parking pass so you can park on campus. The visitor lot East and Student Craft lot are both close walking distance to the house.

Trash and recycling are picked up very early Tuesday morning every week. Please take the trash and recycling bins to the curb on Monday evening and pull them back in Tuesday evening.

The house is being slowly outfitted by Student Craft staff, apprentices, visiting artists and visiting instructors. You can leave your mark on the Craft House by contributing work made during your time here to live on for future visitors to enjoy.
