Flux Collection

Berea’s Fourth Great Commitment celebrates “the dignity and utility of all work, mental and manual, and taking pride in work well done.” Flux was created out of cohesiveness and reliability. We required glazes that did not pinhole, crawl, or run excessively to provide consistency for our patrons. All the glazes and clay at Student Craft are made in-house.

Inspiration came from the Appalachian region, where you see greens and browns frequently paired together as well as yellow flowers springing up from the soil or a sunrise over a wooded area. Having a common color creates cohesion. By embracing variation, each piece is unique, which is why size and color vary slightly.
